The irony of Charlie Parker, probably the world’s most famous and influential jazz saxophonist, winning “Best Altoman of 1951” in one of the two known pieces of footage of Bird performing is unreal.
But what’s more unreal is this being one of the two videos of Charlie Parker and in fact the only one in which he is actually playing and not miming. For such an innovator and legend to be only caught on film such a small amount really shows the testament to his work and how it has lasted over the 100 years.
