Here’s Courtney Pine (plus Dennis Rollins on ‘bone) in France in a televised outdoor concert in 2001. Courtney was really exploring extended technique of the saxophone at the time (and of EWI on the opening tune) and you’ll either love his searching approach that manages to be playful and intense in equal measure, or you’ll reach for an earlier album when he was more in tow to jazz tradition. To our mind, he’s never not interesting, and frequently thrilling.
