Jazz is far from dead and Nubya Garcia is one of the reasons why. Local music shop Record Revivals say they haven’t ever had more advance orders for a jazz album than for her new album Source. Challenging both jazz’s traditional gender roles and original sound Nubya is blending jazz with African-American rhythms to create what the Guardian describe as “post-american jazz”. Nubya has also collaborated with many of Britain’s other leading jazz innovators such as saxophonist Shabaka Hutchings and pianist Joe Armon-Jones.
